Here are some of the experiences folks have had while working with The Red Thread!
"Dug deep furiously covered in mud. I sat with you and took deep breaths. The root told me “I’m not ready.” I stood side by side with you with a knife in my hand. The stalk told me “I’m a mermaid like you, meant to be underwater.” Poured my love in to medicine I could share. Something to offer in joy and sorrow. I learned the value of vulnerability. To be seen and loved more. I could heal. I could see my future by looking back. I embraced the strength of the feminine in my family. Feeling the wounds of their suppression. History is full of secret magic. Magic is food, magic is growth, magic is witnessing. I trusted others to hold me, hold my weight. The warmth of tea, sharing sweet. Nourished by the simple things. Sleepy with full bellies. I have never felt so taken care of and empowered. The Red Thread gave me peace and grace in my rawest moments. The connections I made helped me survive. "Last week we had the chance to attend a wonderful community event organized by The Red Thread Apothecary. We went to Priest Point Park to harvest nettles and it was wonderful and refreshing. Sophie, the young and wise herbalist who led the nature walk, invited us to intentionally sting ourselves in the forehead before we started harvesting. "Nettles change me," was the blessing she did while touching her face lightly with the plant, "so when you get stung, remember to welcome the change."

"The lesson of following is a simple concept, but a demanding practice. Demanding attention, commitment, self work, and lots and lots of asking. Sophie has shown me so many ways to go deeper, to listen and interoperate. What is underneath? What is asking to be seen? How may problems be treated as symptoms and not causes? How may one be in continuous work to transform their inner and outer worlds? To seek nourishment where it is truly needed and to be called to movement in the face of transformation.
I follow the red thread, and the thread of healing, connection, and love. Though the ground I stand on may crumble, and my world around me be blown apart by change, I am bound by threads that fasten together the fibers of my being, that make up who I am and what I do. These together are my purpose, my passion, my presence, my rage and madness and all that goes into my sense of self and my work and presence the world.
Through the work I’ve done with Sophie, I have found a way of practice that works with me and for me. One that is infallibly helpful and one that is asking to be shown and acknowledged in the world. It sounds mysterious, and it is for how can one describe one’s own mysterious magic? What is certain is that the Red Thread is forever a part of my truth and identity, and Sophie has totally blown the world I thought I knew apart with this beautiful work. I am forever grateful and feel all the better for it. I am excited to continue to explore my relationship with this work and with Sophie throughout my life." -Apprentice Brynnley Hoffman
"I'm so glad I decided to invest in the Read Thread winter mini CSA. It was such a joy to pick up such a thoughtfully prepared bundle of gifts each month and encourage myself to use them abundantly. Getting this collection in the form of a CSA brought new favorite plants & medicines into my life I would have been hesitant to buy on my own. I appreciated the attention to detail in presentation and craft. This definitely helped me get through the winter, thank you!" -Emily T
"Through working with Sophie and the Red Thread, I've had some really special opportunities to connect to self, body and community that I wouldn't otherwise have had. Just being in the space, I felt at home, and inspired to connect and stoke the fire of my creativity. I was especially moved by one of the art pieces on the wall, a body drawn in marker on butcher paper, each joint, roll, curve, hole, layer labeled with a story, or appreciation, or reflection. This piece inspired me to tell the story of my own body - my scars, my insecurities, my favorite parts. This was a really important realization, especially at this time in my life when I am finally taking ownership of this body, and taking care of it. In addition, Sophie and I spent almost three hours one evening doing somatic healing work. Our session was totally unique, and Sophie was so good at helping draw out what was needing to be released or processed. My intention was to become more embodied and to create more sensation in the lower half of my body, a place where I feel a lot of numbness. Sophie explained to me how she views the nervous system to work, like a river down the spine, with eddies flowing out. She was going to help push the eddies back into the river for better flow. This visual was so helpful to me as we calmed and worked with my nervous system, it's eddies. I felt so relieved during the session. I left feeling more in tune with the lower half of my body, and with my nervous system, and I also felt like I had some techniques to try on my own because of Soph's guidance, one of them being a new way to use one of my favorite plants, mugwort. Sophie's attention to what I was bringing that evening really made the session personal, and she was able to be fully present with me. I am so grateful to her and the Red Thread/Back Door Medicine Collective community for putting so much work into creating a space for healing that feels grounded, present and REAL."
"I came to the Red Thread with a background in studying herbal medicine. Though I have always felt a deep inclination toward the plants, I had always felt frustrated by my learning experiences. In apprenticing with Sophie Geist, I have finally found to space to begin building a personal relationship with the plants - not one based upon an idea of how people and plants "should" relate. The red thread apprenticeship has provided me with a space for experimentation and connection, a means of accessing my own magic and witnessing that of others." -Apprentice Katie Rita
"You are a conduit to a deeper world of knowing. There are some folks who have "their work" and they "go to work" etc. And then there are some folks who ARE their work. Their work is not really "work" but their way of being and living and moving through the world. That is the kind of person you are. Your work with the natural world, with plants, with bodies, with sensing into the essence of things, with moving in the mystery, that is just how you are and so there is no separation between you and "your work." It's just "you" and you strive to live in alignment with your heart, your soul, your beliefs, and your passions. So, whether it's in an herbal session or on the dance floor or just sitting having tea, what I receive when in your presence is this huge gift of being with someone who is so true to themselves and so willing to be themselves. And without you even trying or knowing it, you give permission and freedom for me to express myself in ways that I would normally feel shy or hesitant about with other people."

"Sophie created a ritual for me when I graduated massage school. It was so well held and I know this because I didn't have any worries, or fears and hiding happening during or after. Sophie held the container so that vulnerability, in all of us, was a strength and I just got to feel loved and supported by all my friends without any crap in the way.
I honestly can't remember very much of what Sophie did specifically because I was in the moment of it all, but I definitely felt her listening to what needed to be from the room and the Bigger Perspective and keeping the energy moving.
Attention in that sort of way is hard for me, parties all about me, and it wasn't when Sophie held the space. There was no left over emotional baggage the day after or any unfelt feelings. I got to have it all in the moment and really feel it. I felt truly gifted by my community and blessed to carry my work into the world.
I thank Sophie for this." - Stephanie Schiavoni, Owner of Lavender Madre
"I purchased the lavendar apple cider vinegar from you at the Maker's Market and it is absolutely amazing and is very high quality. Thank you so much! " - Jessica Hoene
